ILOILO: Old Mansions and Churches
Old Mansions, Churches, good food, rich culture and warm people, those were the things that you will notice on this province. Aside from going to Vigan, Intramuros and Bataan; Iloilo is a perfect place for those who want to see and experience the history of our country.
I actually go to the province without any plan on where to go and what to do, all on my mind was I really want to go to Ilo-Ilo and experience their culture. I roam around the province without any itinerary (just like every trip that I made) and just ask the locals where to, what to and how to. I watched some travel videos read blogs about the places around but when I got there I just chose to ask the locals. Roaming around the province is quite easy since the public transport is very accessible they have almost all modes of transportation from pedicabs, tricycles, jeep, buses and even taxi's. The people around the province were very accommodating and you can easily approach them if you need to ask questions.
There are a lot of old mansions around the area and some of it were greatly preserved, even one of the mansions were converted into a museum with souvenir shops. But majority of the mansions that I saw around the city were abandoned and poorly maintained. It's sad to see how this mansions abandoned in the middle of the city it's like you're seeing a part of the history being forgotten. While roaming around you will also see different churches with stunning architecture.
When going to Iloilo do not forget to try their food, you can try their very own La Paz Batchoy that is served in all around the area but you should try yours at Netong's it is said that they we're one of the oldest Batchoy makers. You also need to try their Pancit Molo, visit the famous Madge Cafe and many more!
My trip to Ilo-Ilo was cut short because I only have limited time to roam around the province but I' sure there are a lot more to do on the Province. I will surely come back and spend a week to explore and experience the places there at it's finest! Just remember the LNT principle upon visiting to preserve the area .
