Bacolod, home of the famous Chicken Inasal and Maskara Festival. One of the most aggressive and fast growing cities of Western Visayas. We all know that every place has it's own story, a story that will help us to understand and appreciate it's hidden beauty in the past. The Ruins of Bacolod is one the perfect place if you want to see the beauty of the City in the past.
The Ruins of Bacolod, was the ancestral home of Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson. It's also dubbed as the Taj Mahal of the City because it is said that it is build for his wife, Doña Maria Braga. It is said that the mansion was intentionally burned by the family during the World War 2 to prevent the Japanese for making it as their headquarters. The remains of the mansion looks stunning that even if it is already burned down, you can still see how beautiful the design of its interior.
Me, together with a backpacker I met during the trip visited the Ruins around 4:00 PM. The Ruins was perfectly illuminated with the sunset and it can give you chills. I don't know why visiting historical places during sunsets makes me appreciate it more. Upon roaming around the Ruins, we noticed that there is a coffee shop in the garden with the perfect view of the mansion. During the night, the whole mansion was lighted warm white color that makes the view of the mansion more stunning and it looks like you're going back in time. There's also a big garden with sculptures, replica of stone hedge and a pond within the facility.
Today, the mansion is being used as a tourist attraction, also weddings, birthdays and other events are being held in the mansion. There is 50 Php entrance fee if you want to explore the whole facility. It is open daily (Mondays to Sundays and even Holidays) from from 8:30am to 8:00pm. They have very accommodating staffs that is willing to guide you and answer your questions regarding the facility.
The mansion was only 15 minutes away from Silay City. You can hire a tricycle to bring you to the ruins for only 70 Php. You don't need to worry about going back to your hotel from the mansion because there's a transport terminal within the facility.
This place is really a must-visit place if you go to Negros Island to know and experience a chunk of their history. Just remember the LNT principle upon visiting to preserve the area .
